  • Click on 'artwork uploader' in the 'quick links' menu.
  • Click on the logo with the '+' sign.

  • You add more files by clicking on the logo with the '+' sign.
  • Select the category these images belong to. The category is used on the main resident's page. If you are uploading a mixed set, you can leave this blank and change it later.
  • If you have already created collections, you can assign the artwork to it now (see below). You can also change this later.
  • Click on 'Save'. This will start uploading the artwork.

Formatting descriptions and inserting images

The website comes with an editor which formats the features found in most word processors and email clients. This can be used when editing the descriptions of your profile, artwork, collections and forum posts.

31 Formatting a description

The editor has a row of buttons using standard icons. If you are not sure what it does, hover the mouse over the button and it will give you a description.

The main features are:

  • Making text bold or italic: 32 Select some text and click either the 'B' or 'I' button.
  • Bullet points:33 Click the bullet point logos and start typing, or select several lines of text, then press the bullet point logo.
  • Add a link: 34 Write some text (e.g., "Read my reviews"). Select the text and click on the link button. Enter the url and click 'OK'. To remove a link, select the text with the link and click on the 'Unlink' button.
  • Paste: 35 You can copy and paste text as you normally would, but these buttons come in handy when pasting from Word documents. For best results paste from an unformatted document and format it in your browser.
  • Remove formatting:36 This is helpful when you just want to remove your formatting and start again.
  • Insert special character: 37 Use this to insert characters like 'Ü'.
  • Paragraph format: 38 Use this to add headings. It looks better than just making a paragraph bold.
  • Image: 39 Use this to insert images into your text. This is useful to add a photo to your profile (like we did above), a logo or additional photo to some artwork (for example if you'd like to include photos of the artwork from different angles).
40 When adding images, there are two choices. First, you can choose how to align the text (inline, left, or right). Secondly, you can choose the size. 'artwork_view' keeps the images as large as possible and adds the 'art's complex' watermark. 'banner' is designed for a wide banner, and doesn't add a watermark. 'square thumbnail' crops the image into a small square. 'third_with' resizes the images so you can fit three images next to each other.
  • Add a break: 41 This marks the place in your profile where you want to insert your gallery. By default the gallery is added at the bottom of the profile. In the example above "Yum. yum" will appear after the gallery.
  • Edit raw html: If you're an HTML expert, you can click the "disable right-text" editor and change the HTML directly. Note the website does strip out certain attributes, classes and disallowed tags (like tables).

Internal Forum

Art's complex has an internal forum for residents. When posting to a forum, residents can insert images as they do in their profile, or add them as attachments. Doing the latter will preserve the original image without resizing it. It is also possible to attach other files like pdfs in this manner.

Grouping artwork into collections

Collections help tidy up a profile. A collection consists of a name, an image and optionally a description.

42 An example of a profile which uses collections

To add a collection do the following:

  • Click on 'add collection' in the 'quick links' menu.
  • Select an image to use as a logo. This image will only be visible on the main profile page.
  • Add a title and optionally a description and click on 'Save'.

Adding artwork to collections can be done in the following way:

  • When adding artwork, the collection will appear in the 'collection' drop down menu.
  • You can add an individual piece of artwork to a collection on the 'edit' table of the artwork.
  • You can assign artwork to a collection using the artwork manager.

Adjusting previews

Previews can be adjusted for artwork and collections. When viewing artwork or collections there will be a box on the left hand side with a link to a cropping dialogue.

43 45 Selecting the preview area for a collection

Please note: After changing the preview of artwork or collections, the change might not be visible to you until you tell your browser to reload the page (ctrl-R or Apple-R).

Artwork manager

The artwork manager is useful to get an overview of uploaded artwork and to move them between collections.

48

Once you have selected artwork using the tick boxes you can do the following:

  • Set the category of artwork. This is the category used for the art's complex residents page.
  • Rename: Give selected artwork the same name (e.g. 'Untitled').
  • Add to collection
  • Remove from collection
  • Delete: Use this with care.
