Exhibition: Studio 518 - Life Study

Studio 518– Life Study
25 June – 03 July 2011
Open every day: 11am - 6pm
Studio 518 is the name, and home, of one of the most vibrant life drawing workshops in Edinburgh; conceived when the group, which is facilitated by figurative artist Trina Bohan Tyrie, moved into, the then very new, art’s complex on London Road.
Many artists use the workshops as an end in themselves, producing finished paintings from the sessions; others, who have studios within art’s complex, such as Chris Rutterford, use the workshops to improve their skills for winning commissions. Scotland is now a world leader in CGI gaming and artists within art’s complex use the sessions to sharpen their character drawing skills. The group draws on an expanding pool of both male and female models from our cosmopolitan city.
The Life Study exhibition will display figurative art drawn from three weekly life drawing workshops; resident figurative artists and invited artists who have worked within art’s complex. There is a core, Thursday Life Group, which is now over a year old; this is an untutored drop-in group with life model.
Derek Gray, Artistic Director of art’s complex, commented:
“This exhibition will be a wonderful showcase for art’s complex, hopefully displaying the impact the project has had upon art in the city…Our preview events are always lively and we are certainly looking forward to this one.”
This will be the group’s first exhibition which will display a wide range of styles in every medium; oils, pastels, charcoal, pen & ink – pretty much anything that will make an interesting mark.
