Sat 31 Mar - Thur 12 Apr

Gallery 1, comprising the whole third floor of the north wing of art’s complex, is a space which demands to be filled. To my mind it is a charged emptiness, surfaces reflecting ideas, spaces demanding movement, air waiting to become sound. There is a beauty in this potentiality which I hope to preserve intact.

Taking the infinite potential of the void as a point of departure this exhibition will attempt to explore, through diverse media, various realisations of the notion that the act of observation and the act of creation are synonymous.

Exhibits will include harmonographic drawing machines, compositions of found materials which given a simple set of initial conditions will trace pictures of astonishing complexity that balance the indefatigable order of a swinging pendulum with the unrepeatable genius of chaotic chance.

Performances by Sink including live music, movement and kinetic sculpture will take place at Opening Hand 30th March 8pm and Closing Hand 12th April 8pm. www.theplughole.com

The exhibition will be open to public participation from 02–15 April
