Floral Façade

14 – 22 May 2011

From funeral rights, to temple worship; femininity to sexuality, they are a cultural icon, a symbol of beauty and vitality.

Flowers

Flowers have long been associated with the arts, from Botticelli's 'Primavera', Monet's 'Water Lilies', to Van Gogh's 'Sunflowers', the flower has been the staple of 'still life' for centuries, providing a worthy - and often tired - muse for many an artist. During the Victorian era, flowers were a means of communicating love and emotion. With the arrival of the 60s, the flower became the poster-child of peace and love.

From this long history, the artworks shown in this group show, Floral Façade, aim to portray in a new light, this most hackneyed of artistic symbols.
