Ashore
Heather Potten, Sue Horsburgh & Jiri Holcik
29 October – 13 November 2011
PREVIEW : Friday 28 October | 18:30 – 21:30
A unique collaborative exhibition entitled Ashore, showcasing the combined talents of fibre artists Heather Potten and Sue Horsburgh and wood carver Jiri Holcik, opens on Friday 28 October 2011 at art’s complex, London Road, Edinburgh.
Ashore features an eclectic mix of exhibition pieces which all reference the sea. Pieces incorporate the imaginative use of fabrics, driftwood and random beach finds (such as sea glass, shells and weather-worn tin cans). These elements are worked into individual sculptural pieces using a variety of felting wools and a range of textural silks, yarns and distressed fabrics.
Each artist is influenced by echoes of their childhood. Heather has always loved tales of mystery and, through her skilful use of colour, takes risks to create the unexpected. Sue’s fascination is with intricate details and the minutiae of life. Jiri’s affinity with wood derives from walks in the countryside around his home in the mountains of Moravia, Czech Republic.
