Exhibition: 1st International Afro-Brazilian Festival
Malungos Edinburgh would like to invite you to the 1st International Afro-Brazilian Festival in Edinburgh.
This festival will take place over four days from the 14th - 17th April 2011, at art’s complex, and will feature a schedule of Capoeira, Afro Dance, Maculele (warrior dance), Batucada (Brazilian percussion), Samba dance, Samba Drumming headed by Brazilian Mestre's and Professors from around Europe. There will also be arts and crafts on display at the venue, and a club night on Saturday featuring the acclaimed African band Manje.
Malungos is a non-profit organisation that offers voluntarily led classes in Capoeira and Afro-Brazilian culture, the proceeds from these classes go to bringing Professors over to hold master classes and workshops open to the public. We believe we are doing something exciting and socially integrative and regenerative, tying in with council social policy on encouraging sport and movement within the public. Our classes are all held at community halls or church halls in an effort to make them accessible to the public, they are specifically set at an affordable rate as well and offered too all ages and levels of fitness. We also put on social events and do demo's for fundraisers and other events. By being part of the community sector means we support local social groups such as the Edinburgh Samba School, art’s complex, Roxy Art House, Tollcross community centre and Nelson Hall Community Centre. This would be a great opportunity to support a vibrant and active community in Edinburgh, and be part of the launch of an exciting new cultural festival. We would like to extend an invitation to you, to be part of this group and share the energy and passion that has come through the events we put on.
