fear 'n' lothian

to celebrate the launch of his website, www.itsthatmannpeter.co.uk peter mann has assembled over 40 works for a new show at art’s complex, "a bold, dynamic, truly (fucking) awe-inspiring gallery" created by derek gray.

the grotesque, angst-ridden imagery of peter's previous exhibitions at his abbeyhill gallery attracted admiration and loathing in equal measure to the point of vandalism. the title fear 'n' lothian is taken from a poem called 'gangs' by shellsuit massacre.

this new work was produced over three happily productive years at his out of the blue studio in portobello. it continues in a challenging vein, but to the soulful, expressionistic savagery of the oil-paintings, is added a finesse and delicacy which is evident in the monotypes. be warned! this work still has the power to shock.
